10th Anniversary of Macau Food Festival
:
The food culture of Macao has a long history and perfectly combines the Eastern and Western style, with strong local features and cultural connotations and fully representing the diversity, tolerance, harmony and international characteristics of Macao. It’s a precious cultural resource.

The Macau Food Festival is a brand activity established after the reunification of Macao with the Motherland. The 1st Food Festival was held on Leal Senado Square in the summer holiday of 2000, with the purpose to resist impact from the Asian Financial Crisis, promote consumption and attract tourists.

The Macau Food Festival is a carnival of delicacy, happiness and excitement. With delicious foods as the main role, supported by the entertainment programs such as amusement rides and booth games, the activity seems more lively and diversified. Both the old and the young can find delicacy and fun here, indulging in pleasures without stop. When they visit here today, they want to come here again tomorrow. As to the delicacies, dozens of local famous restaurants gather here, bringing over one hundred pitches of featured snacks from different countries and the Great China to this platform. The favorable Interaction and gathering effect are thus generated to broaden the view of people in (he food industry as well as to promote the progress, communication and enhancement of such people, so that the entire industry can keep learning, get united, help each other and strive to be stronger.
From the 3rd Macau Food Festival in 2003, this event is held together with the annual Macau Grand Prix and becomes a great local tourism event in autumn. In November of each year, civilians and tourists are always on the tiptoe of their expectation. When the event starts, there are always huge crowds of people on the site. Sai Van Lake Square is filled with the sounds of singing, laughter and hurrah as well as the smells of all kinds of foods. By the side of the scenic Sal Van Lake and under the Macau Tower, here is the hottest place of Macao once a year. The splendid fireworks, the smell of happiness all representing that, after establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the people in the food industry are getting stronger and stronger through constant efforts and with guidance, care and support of the government. Based on their original foundation, they work down-to-earth to adopt advantages from different sources and strive hard to create a heaven of delicacies. With their persevering innovations, they will surely advance to a higher peak.

Performances of the investment platform also reflect the success of the Macau Food Festival.In the past events, famous restaurants from countries were invited for participation, such as Thailand, Malaysia, Portugal and India, and regions, including Hong Kong, Taiwan. Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Jilin, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Hubci, Henan, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Shanxi, Beijing, Nanjing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chaozhou-Shantou and Zhongshan, etc. Some of such famous restaurants even stayed in Macao after their participation in the event, adding new elements to the “Gathering of Diversified Delicacies” of Macao.

In November 2010, the 10th Macau Food Festival is held as scheduled.
To celebrate the 10th Macau Food Festival, Macao Post has issued the stamps with the theme “10th Anniversary of Macau Food Festival”. The stamps showed the five famous snacks which were the most popular in all past events are illustrated, including Wanton Noodles, Xiao Long Bao (small steamed buns), Sushi, Portuguese Egg Tart and a famous local dish, Portuguese Chicken. Besides, the design of the souvenir sheet even better reflects the excitement and happiness on the site of the event set against the splendid fireworks.

The 10th Macau Food Festival is a platform for local food culture to communicate with those features food cultures from China mainland and Southeast Asia. Here, we would find the harmonious and combined presentation of the traditional and plain side of food culture and the high-end and new-style unique techniques in the industry. We are looking forward that this event will inspire creative and innovative thinking in the food industry, promote the combination of heritage and innovation, witness and create the history of food culture development in Macao.
